AGAPE is the acronym for Association of Greater Appalachian Parent Educators. It is commonly referred to as AGAPE of JC because it began and is presently centered in Johnson City, Tennessee. Agape is the oldest homeschooling support group in the TriCities and is open to all Christian home schoolers who agree with our mission, Statement of Faith, and desire fellowship and support. We offer field trips, family activities, Enrichment Days, lending library, “Mom’s Night Out” and classes as interest dictates. In addition we are preparing a directory of resources and opportunities open to homeschoolers so parents may choose what is best for their family.
Teaching your children is your God given right and responsibility. In recent years many support groups have emphasized a co-op approach resulting in many attributes and problems of a small school. AGAPE had a successful Co-op in the past. Unfortunately it caused us to drift from our purpose and we suffered storms. As the Israelites came out of Egypt’s bondage, many of us have come out of public and private schools to a new freedom of teaching our values and beliefs to our children. We feel God is leading us to put the HOME back in home schooling.
As we start the 2006-2007 school year, AGAPE’s vision is fourfold.
- To anchor firmly to the inspired, infallible Word of God.
- To promote HOME schooling and family activities.
- To encourage, support and uphold one another in prayer.
- To help you with the “s” word when people ask, “What about socialization?”
